Google Images Search: Specific Search Possible

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007
As seen on Blogoscoped, "The next big thing for image search would be the ability to search based on visual concepts, such as a picture of a house on a mountain with a river in front of it."

In a discussion with Radhika Malpani, Google’s Senior Staff Software Engineer, it was announced that, as for now, images can be searched on three basis, which include:
1.    show everything (the default old search)
2.    show faces
3.    show news images

On being asked why Google Image went back to its old version after adopting a new look, Malpani answered, "Google is always working to improve search. Any changes we make focus on improving the experience for our users. In this particular case, users did not find the user experience in this experiment as helpful as the previous experience, and so we decided to end the experimental user interface. ".

It should be noted that Google isn’t the first with this servicem as Exalead launched this service on 23rd April, 2007.

More Navigation Options in Google’s UI

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007
Google made changes in their UI by adding more indexes and entities to make work of the users easy.

“New dynamically generated navigation links have been added above the search results to suggest additional information that is relevant to a user’s query. For example, a search for “python” will now generate links to Google Blog Search(TM), Google Book Search(TM), Google Groups(TM), and Google Code(TM), to let the user know, there is additional information on his or her query in each of those areas. As a result, users can find a wider array of information on their topic, including data types they might not have initially considered.”

More options in navigation tab include other Google services like books, Documents, groups etc. All in all, query results will be more comprehensive with more options for you to pick most apt one.

The navigation options in their SERPs have altered as the new navigation tab features a drop-box with a lot of other Google services.

“Google’s homepage and a number of applications have also been updated with a new navigation bar to provide easier access to popular Google products. Google Universal Search

Thursday, May 17th, 2007
Google announced a new Universal Search model  among other things at their 2007 Searchology Webcast press conference.

"Our focus has always been making our users’ search experience as simple and straightforward as possible," said Marissa Mayer, vice president of search products and user experience at Google. "The ultimate goal of universal search is to break down the silos of information that exist on the web and provide the very best answer every time a user enters a query. While we still have a long way to go, today’s announcements are a big step in that direction."

"Google has continued to concentrate on improving the quality of search," said Udi Manber, vice president of engineering at Google. "The level and speed of search innovation at Google has increased. Most of this innovation addresses basic ranking algorithms and is often not obvious to users. Users just see more accurate results …. which is our primary goal."

Topic: Can viral video clips drive targeted traffic to your web site?

Over one hundred million videos are watched on YouTube each day. What impact does creating and promoting online videos have on a company?

A research website, Marketing Experiments, implemented a controlled test to answer this question. They created 28 videos 15 seconds and up to 8 minutes in length with a 3-5 second message at the end containing a URL to a website that might be relevant or interesting to the viewer. They created videos that were “amateurish” with personal blog information and comedy the main subject. The videos are now generating over 300,000 views each month.

Important Search Optimization Tips

Microsoft to purchase Yahoo!, they are trying.

Friday, May 4th, 2007

Microsoft has gone on the full offensive in their attack to purchase Yahoo!.  According to a recent press release this made Yahoo! shares jump 17.96% making me very happy since I own Yahoo stock. Yahoo!’s current market cap is $44.41 billion, wait it just went up to $44.60 billion. Some think Yahoo! will sell at over $50 billion.

This would be good for Internet users if the culture of Microsoft does not overwhelm Yahoo!’s. I think that Yahoo is a better company than Google and has a much wider range of services. Statistics show that users spend much more time on a Yahoo! site than on Google.

Google Site Map Change Helps Search Optimization

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Search optimization marketing with SEO is now easier as Google adds a new way to communicate to Google about their site map. Now just specify a line that is the site map in the robots.txt file and all search engines will be able to locate it. Vanessa Fox with Google still suggests that the site map is submitted to Google to help identify any errors that it might contain.
