Yahoo! Launches “Geo-targeting†System
Yahoo! has launched a geo-targeting system for its search ad placement service, in an effort to help search ad campaign managers fine tune campaigns to their target audience.
But, how will it work? Well, the new feature will analyze different search queries of the users, such as their IP addresses and various other information, that determine the users’ location and the genre of ads Yahoo Search will deliver them.
You view the feature once you login to your Yahoo Ad Campaign account. When you select the “geo-targeting†feature tab, it will allow you to select areas like:
- Entire market
- Country
- State/Province
- DMA, City or ZIP Code

Geo-targeting feature has been designed to create more relevant ad clicks by selecting specific target locations. As a result this will boost your sales. The feature is now available in Beta mode.
According to the Yahoo! Search Marketing Blog, “Geo-targeting is a clever little feature that can analyze a user’s search query, their Internet Protocol (IP) address and other user information to determine where they are and what ads to serve to them. For example, if you select Portland as a geo-targeted region for the sale of your product, searchers with an IP address in Portland will be served your ad. If you’re a Portland business, you’re likely to get more relevant clicks that can lead to more sales. Our new updates give you the chance for even more relevant clicks.”
